HERNDON, Va. - Apr. 11, 2000 - A team led by Logicon Inc., a Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) company, has been selected by the U.S. Navy to support development of advanced Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems.

Highlights

  • Logicon wins Navy contract for C4ISR technology development
  • Five-year contract has a potential value of $46 million
  • Contract centers on future C4ISR technologies
The Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Command, San Diego, Calif., awarded the five-year contract, which has a cumulative value of $46 million, if all options are exercised.

This contract provides SPAWAR with the services needed to support the identification, development and transition to production of C4ISR technologies for the Navy and other services and agencies. Specific tasks to be performed by the Logicon team include modeling and simulation; advanced concepts and technologies; and operational experimentation and prototype support.

"Military affairs today revolve around a network-centric environment where information is obtained from multiple sources, transmitted, analyzed and presented in a way that the warfighter can make immediate and accurate decisions," said Greg Coar, program manager, Logicon. "This represents an unprecedented information technology challenge. Through this contract, Logicon and its team will work with the Navy to define and develop innovative solutions to meet this challenge." Logicon's Information Solutions unit will lead the contractor team, which includes Logicon's Inter-National Research Institute (INRI) unit in Reston, Va. Other team members include Boeing Phantom Works, Seattle, Wash.; Comptek Federal Systems, Buffalo, N.Y.; Haulsey Engineering, San Diego; the Marconi unit of BAE Systems, San Diego; OriginalSim, Montreal, Quebec; Orincon Corp. San Diego; Stellar Graphics, San Diego; and the San Diego Supercomputer Center, part of the University of California at San Diego. Work on the program will be performed primarily in San Diego.

The award is the second recent C4ISR-related contract win for Logicon. The company was selected by the SPAWAR Systems Center Charleston to provide in-service engineering and technical support for current and future C4I systems under a five-year contract that has a potential value of $81 million. The Charleston contract is focused on fielded C4I systems, and the SPAWAR Systems Command San Diego contract targets advanced concepts and technologies for future C4ISR systems.
