U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AWARDS NORTHROP GRUMMAN PHYSICAL SECURITY CONTRACT

HERNDON, Va. -- Sept. 14, 2004 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Transportation to provide protection of physical assets, operations and people.

Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector will share in task orders valued up to $120 million over five years. The task orders are administered by the Transportation Dept.'s John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, part of the Research and Special Programs Administration, under the Transportation Security Solutions contract. The Volpe Center provides research, analysis and system deployment services to the Transportation Dept., and other federal, state and local agencies.

Under the scope of the contract, Northrop Grumman will compete to protect several modes of transportation, logistics processes, and governmental functions, facilities and operations, from sabotage and terrorist attacks.

Northrop Grumman will also provide services including vulnerability assessments and security planning, security-system design and installation, and support for contingency and emergency response and recovery.

"Northrop Grumman's experience providing physical security services to government agencies helps us fully understand the scope of the Volpe Center's requirements," said Sidney Fuchs, president, Northrop Grumman IT's TASC business unit. "We will use our security knowledge and capabilities to further support the government in its mission to combat terrorism and upgrade the security and electronic systems of our nation's infrastructures."

Northrop Grumman is one of nine suppliers selected to compete for Volpe task orders.

Work on the contract will be conducted at various federal government transportation security locations in Washington, D.C. and Cambridge, Mass.

The Northrop Grumman IT team includes: DMJM Holmes+Narver, Los Angeles; Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas, New York; Excalibur Associates, Westminster, Colo.; Flatter & Associates, Stafford, Va.; Spectrum Security Group, Vienna, Va.; and Siemens Building Technologies, Buffalo Grove, Ill.
