MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 15, 2007 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a contract to install, train and support a formative assessment student testing system for the Deer Valley Unified School District in Phoenix, Az., providing schools with an effective way to improve student learning and promote teacher collaboration and professional development.

The Assessment Solutions Promoting Instruction Reflection and Evidence of Learning (ASPIRE) System focuses on student achievement and closing the achievement gap by providing tools that measure student progress, allowing teachers and schools to focus on areas where students need help. The Northrop Grumman-developed system also provides teachers with research-based instructional strategies to help refine their instructional practice, helping teachers to improve student learning.

"Northrop Grumman's ASPIRE Assessment System enables teachers and schools to teach at the same pace, allowing students to improve their learning, closing the achievement gap between students from different demographic groups," said Linda Mills, president of the Civilian Agencies group at Northrop Grumman's Information Technology sector. "ASPIRE will prepare students for the competitive global economy so that our nation can remain at the cutting edge for years to come."

Northrop Grumman is working with teammate the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), Alexandria, Va., on this contract. ASCD has a 65-year history of working with educators to promote the achievement of all learners.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a $30 billion global defense and technology company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide.
